“An Ode to Mothers”
My friend’s “Letter-to-the-Editor”: “An Ode to Mothers” was printed in a Community Newspapers’ Mother’s Day Section.
“An Ode to Mothers”
- Mothers give their children more than the “Gift of Life”.
- Mothers give “Life-Shaping Values” to guide their children’s lives.
- (As the twig is bent, so grows the tree”.)
- She is like a diamond, a priceless gem to her family.
That value is captured by paraphrasing a familiar poem:
“There was a young mother who lived in a shoe.
She taught all her children the right things to do.
Like a diamond, she was strong and brilliant,
So, her children grew to be smart and resilient.
It matters not, if it’s a shoe or a glove,
A mother fills a home with abundant love.”
Perhaps an analogy better describes a mother’s value:
A mother is like a cocoon, from which beautiful butterflies emerge.
Each is unique and magnificent, reflecting the awesome attributes of their mother.
Yet, countless beautiful butterflies will give testimony to their mothers’ dazzling spirit.
That’s the maternal legacy to their children’s children, and on, and on, and…
It’s timeless…and priceless.
While all of the above applies to all mothers, this letter was inspired by my friend’s wonderful wife:
A magnificent mother to her four children, and cherished grandmother, to their 6 children.
All relationships would benefit by sharing the unselfish love of a mother…with this Prayer:
